A variety of brass containing copper 50%, zinc 50%. Is usually cast into iron moulds having transverse and longitudinal ridges, so that the cake of brass can be broken up into smaller rectangle pieces. These pieces then heated in a furnace and afterwards powdered in an iron mortar. The solder is used for uniting iron and brass.
