Nickel-Steel
Nickel steels contain nickel in amounts up to 50%. They are hard, tough and resistant and are mostly able to withstand continuous wear and shocks. Above a nickel content of 2%, 1% of nickel adds about 2 1/2 tons per square inch tensile strength to steel up to about 8 - 10%. The fatigue resistance is also increased. Steels containing 10 - 15% nickel are brittle. The great bulk of nickel steel contains from 2 to 4% of nickel from .2 to .5% carbon.
