Stellite

A cobalt alloy which has been used for the manufacture of cutting tools. It can be hardened without changing its dimensions so that a tool of this alloy which is to be used for cutting screw threads can be made to the exact dimensions and then hardened without any fear of shrinkage, or other distortion taking place in it. Stellite is also resistant to the action of nitric acid. Average composition: cobalt 55%, molybdenum 5%, chromium 15%, tungsten 25%.
