Type Metal
Name given to a group of lead alloys containing from 13% to 30% of antimony, sometimes tin or bismuth up to about 20%.
Typical composition: lead 75%, tin 5%, antimony 20%. All type metals expand slightly upon solidification. Hence they give fine and sharp impressions of their casting moulds, and, as such, are used for the production of printer's type.
